Our Oakland Hills chapter reached their first BookTini milestone in January. The chapter was chartered on December 30, 2015 and held their first Drinks & Discussion on January 16, 2016. This means they reached their one year of "Good books. Good drinks. Great friends!" in January 2017.
According to chapter co-founder Iguehi James, "When you miss a BookTini meeting, you really feel like you missed something good."
Chapter member Deaidre White, echoes a similar sentiment." The women in my chapter support me far beyond the completion of a book. Every meeting, I am guaranteed more than a few laughs, a hug, a geniune "How are you?!" and a reason to smile."
We're happy that BookTini was able to create a space for a new sisterhood for this second Oakland chapter that was formed when our original chapter was at their membership capacity for more than two years; something that had never happened before. When this obstacle got in their way, Iguehi and chapter co-founder Antonette Harmon, became creative and opted to strike out on their own with a brand new chapter. The Oakland Hills chapter now boasts 13 active members.
"The book discussions and cocktails are what brought us together," Iguehi explained. "But the sisterhood and relationships that have been formed is what keeps us (excitedly) coming back."
Happy 1 Year, BookTini-versary, Ladies!
