Like the subject of our Black Excellence literary selection, Michelle Obama, we're going the classy and elegant route for our February cocktail. This refreshing and citrusy sparkling gin cocktail packs a punch. And so does Becoming.
2 oz gin
1 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 tsp sugar or 1 teaspoon simple syrup
4 oz Champagne or sparkling wine
Long thin lemon spiral and cocktail cherry for garnish
The combo of gin, lemon juice, and Champagne brings out the best in each.
Fill cocktail shaker with ice. Add gin, lemon juice, and sugar and shake well until chilled (15 seconds). Strain into champagne flute or cup.
Top with Champagne. Stir gently and then add lemon spiral and cocktail cherry.
Toast to Black Excellence.
Make an alternative French 75 by nixing the simple syrup/sugar, and adding 1 oz of Cointreau orange liqueur in its place.
Brut is often the preferred Champagne of choice for the French 75.
London dry is the preferred style of gin
Want to be different? Opt for lime juice instead of lemon.
